Yes, Michele Clunie is pregnant with Bryan Singer’s baby but she is not a surrogate mother
Michelle Clunie (Queer as Folk) took to Facebook today to clear up any confusion people may have about her and Bryan Singer (X-Men) having a baby together – a baby they plan to co-parent.
(As you can see from this photo of the parents-to-be with Mick Fleetwood at a recent Fleetwood Mac concert, Michelle is very far along!)
Here is her Facebook post from earlier today in its entirety:
I need to clarify something that a few people in the press keep getting wrong. They might never see this but I need to put it out there. I do not blame them nor do I have any ill will whatsoever. I see this more as a ‘learning moment’. A Surrogate, as it refers to in pregnancy, is a woman who is carrying a baby for someone else to raise. You can not be a surrogate to your own baby. I am pregnant with my very own baby which I will raise, a baby I created with Bryan Singer. I think people have never seen a gay man have a baby without the use of a surrogate, so I understand the confusion. I know our situation is different and might be the first of it’s kind in public but some day many women will wake up and see how much happiness is waiting them when they decide to co-parent with their dear friend they love. Yes, we use to date.. so that adds to the confusion but I am here to state.. a gay man can have a baby with his ex girlfriend and they can raise that baby together as any other normal family. This does not make me a surrogate just like it does not make him the sperm donor. As a family those words are offensive. Would you call someone’s wife who is pregnant with their baby a surrogate? much less the man’s surrogate? We are co- parents or rather Partners-in-procreation ( he is my P.I.P) . I know it is not hetero-normative nor is it homo-normatve, it is simply our normative and I hope this clears it up for some people. If not, I tried lol.
