Will “Southland” land on TNT?
It already seems like such a bonehead move for ratings-challenged NBC to cancel the cop drama Southland before it even got a chance to have it’s second season premiere.
We’ll see just how big a bonehead move it was when the John Wells-produced drama, which has a prominent gay character, starts airing somewhere else – quite possibly TNT although there is no signed deal.
The Wrap reported Friday that TNT has long been considered a likely home for the drama that starred Ben McKenzie, Regina King and Tom Everett Scott, among others. Southland also had a prominent gay character of officer John Cooper played by Michael Cudlitz (pictured, left).
A possible move was made more realistic Friday when NBC and Warner Bros., which produces the show, reached a breaking up agreement that frees the network of “shutdown costs” associated with pulling the plug before their second season 13-episode commitment was fulfilled. (Six second season episodes had been filmed).
In exchange, Warner Bros. is free to sell all 13 produced episodes of Southland wherever it wants (very likely TNT). The Wrap writes that TNT would probably air the already-produced episodes to see how they fare ratings-wise before committing to resuming production in new ones.

That would be great if Southland was picked up. It is so well done and shows LA for all the bad and good it has to offer.
