Will Horton spends the day with his dysfunctional family on “Days of Our Lives”

It’s family day in Salem and Will joins his parents and little sister for the festivities.

But tensions lurk beneath the happy facade and Will remains livid with hos mother.

“I know that something’s going on with him, something that I have nothing to do with and I can’t help him,” Sami says to Lucas.

This is just a warm up to when Will comes out to his parents – then things will get interesting again. We hope!

Personally, I would say the coming out process of Will was way too long and boring, and the characters around Will were not interacting with each other. Sonny was disgustingly underutilized during the whole process, especially recently.

I am wondering what kind of audiences the writers wanted to draw in. If they were aiming at those more “conservative” audience of the gay theme and wanted to educate them that gay were normal and good for watch, then I would say they apparently failed to deliver the message as complaints of the gay story were still everywhere (personally, I don’t think a daytime soap can actually change the audience’s mind that much). If they were aiming at gay friendly or gay audience (including myself), then I would say this ever-lasting coming out story was not interesting at all, as we were watching soaps and we apparantly understand soaps are about romance/supercouples and we want gay romance, So, I would say the previous writes failed in both ways. I am not surprised as the whole show was a mess for a long time. I hope the changes of the writing team could rectify the horrible situation.

  2. Agree to disagree marvelpku – Rarely has television provided this accurate a description of the internal struggle some gay youths have coming to terms with their sexuality. The pacing, while plodding at times, never felt rushed or forced and favored real-world attributes over soapy twists. While I agree the character of Sonny has been(up to this point) underused, Chandler Massey and Deidre Hall have absolutely provided the standout performances in daytime television this year – each bringing a warmth and compassion to their characters’ dynamic I have to think resonates with any daytime audience – gay friendly or not.

Hi Patrick, thank you for your comments. I am glad I’ve got some feedback here. It is my honor. Hehe.
TBH, I will have to say my opinion of this show is very subjective though, and I believe each audience would have their personal judgement. To me, the pace of the coming out story is slow and dull (and I am gay myself you know). Chandler and Deidre chemistry? Well, it is OK but NOT something THAT outstanding. I don’t know why a lot of media seemed to speak highly of it, but to me, it is just normal and nothing too special. The bottom line is I WON’T ever watch this show for a “love” story between Will and Marlena.
