Will freaks out after kissing a guy in outstanding episode of “Days of Our Lives”
Okay, the big make-out scene between Will and Neil was fun to anticipate and to watch but the real payoff are the scenes that followed on today’s episode of Days of Our Lives.
It’s the kind of performance that will win Chandler Massey an Emmy – I’m certain of it.
He takes us on quite a journey today and with him along the way are his caring friend Sonny (Freddie Smith) and his loving grandmother Marlena (Deidre Hall).
All three are just outstanding and seem so connected to the characters and each others. It is such good stuff.
I’ve watched it twice now and I’m just blown away at the excellence of the acting and of the writing. Kudos to the show for doing such a wonderful job with this part of the story.
If every gay kid out there had as understanding a grandmother as Will, it would be such a gift. So for all of those who don’t, I hope they are watching and can see that such love is possible and they will find it some day.
The episode picks up with Will still kissing Neil but he soon pushes away and leaves in anguish and tears. He talks to Sonny and blames it on the booze: “I just had too much to drink and don’t try to make this into something that it’s not.”
Says Sonny: You don’t have to hide anymore. Just talk to me. I’m the one person who does understand. I know exactly what you’re going through. I’ve been there.”
A tearful Will heads straight to his grandma’s house and it is here that Will really breaks your heart as he says helplessly to Marlena: “I don’t know what to do. I don’t know what to do and I want you to tell me what to do.”
Marlena is solid: “I’m right here. I’m right here baby. I’ve got you. I’ve got you.”
Will shares that he kissed Neil and wonders why Marlena is not shocked or disgusted.
‘I think you know how much I love you and I think you know that I would never lie to you,” she tenderly tells her grandson. ‘This is the thing that I suspected you’ve been dealing with for a long time. Please remember something: I will never, ever judge you. I just want you to be happy.’
Says Will: ‘I want to be happy too. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time that I was.’
Here are the scenes. Take them in, watch them again, and appreciate that this is being done on network television.

It is about time we have a good storyline about “coming out!” Excellent episodes! Protected on my VCR for repeated viewings. Pass the popcorn, please – this is good as it gets!

Love, love, love, loved this episode..I just wish Sonny followed him and hugged him during the breakdown. I hope Will hooks up with Sonny.

Days has been on a roll lately, but Thursday’s and Friday’s episodes were two of the best EVER. Kudos to the writers, the producers, SONY, and NBC for allowing Days to take us on this journey with Will. The performance by Chandler the past few months have been phenomenal and I hope he is rewarded with that Emmy. Also, the characters (and performances) of Marlena and Sonny are such a welcome addition to this story and I applaud Diedre and Freddie. It is great seeing such an honest portrayal of a coming out. My only complaint is MORE SONNY! He is a rock for Will, and he moves me every time he is on screen.
