Will asks Sonny about how he came to terms with being gay on during heart-to-heart on “Days of Our Lives”

Yesterday’s scenes on Days of Our Lives between Will and Sonny were just exceptional.

The two have plans to go to the movies but before they go, Will wants to talk.

“Lately your friends have been thinking things about me,” he asks Sonny. “How does somebody know when they’re gay?”

Sonny shares with Will his experience coming to terms with his sexuality.

“Every birthday during high school when it came time to blow out the candles, I’d wish that gay Sonny would go away just so I could be like everyone else,” Sonny confessed. “It’s hard to believe I ever felt that way about myself.”

Will listened intently, trying to keep his emotions in check.

“I just lived with hating myself because I thought it would be easier than being myself,” Sonny said. “I was good at school, I was good at sports, why couldn’t I be good at being straight?”

While Will does not come out to Sonny, he wanted his friend to know that he understands: “It just kills me to know that thrre are people out there right now who are living the same lie I was.”

Will is clearly deeply moved and it is such a beautiful scene for these two characters.

I can’t help but think about all the young viewers watching this show, some who may be struggling with coming out to their families or themselves. This episode, I hope, provides some help.
