Whoopi Goldberg on spat with Rosie O’Donnell: ‘We’re all a bit too long in the tooth to be fighting’

Well, the Whoopi Goldberg-Rosie O’Donnell clash on the set of The View has certainly been getting a lot of attention in the last 24 hours. I think Rosie ought to get an earpiece to avoid future misunderstandings.

Anyway, Whoopi explains the spat this way: ‘Like family, some days you’re cranky. There are four of us and some days we’re just cranky.’

Goldberg, speaking with MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts earlier today suggested that there is something of a double standard when two woman have a disagreement like she and O’Donnell had during a commercial break last week.

‘I know it’s going to come as a shock but I know all these guys on programs also get cranky with each other,’ she pointed out. ‘But the difference is, there’s not four guys talking to each other and doing stuff. So they should just back off of us and see what we do and stop waiting for something to happen.

‘I do think there’s a double standard. Nobody talks about “Hey, there’s a spat over at Sunday Morning.’

Goldberg, moderator of the show for the past seven years, was joined two weeks ago by O’Donnell who had one previous season as a co-host back in 2006-07 as well as Rosie Perez and Nicolle Carson.

While ratings are up, Goldberg said there is a lot of pressure.

‘You’re with people, you have outside influences – people saying “We want to make sure your numbers are up and we want to please the sponsors” so it can get a little pressurized – particularly with this show.’

Goldberg added: ‘I don’t know that when The View began, it was about chick fights. And quite honestly, we’re all a bit too long in the tooth to be fighting. We’ll find our way, we’ll get our rhythm … We’re finding our stuff, back away.’

The war of words occurred during the taping of the show last Thursday (25 September) when moderator Goldberg reportedly cut O’Donnell off during the show’s Hot topics segment to go to a commercial.

Goldberg at one point said to O’Donnell: I’m really sick of your shit!’

3 Remarks

  1. O’Donnell is a hot head. She’ll never change.

  2. @Joe-still prefer her to Elizabeth Hassleskank.

  3. @FAEN – That isn’t saying much for Rosie. I used to like her, but now find too emotionally explosive and irritating. She could definitely benefit from taking a couple of chill pills.
