When EGOT Rita Moreno sat next to Greg In Hollywood backstage at the Daytime Emmys

Since I had been sitting in the press room all night with my pals Renee Sotile and MJ Godges of LGBT Hollywood, I did not expect to find myself suddenly sitting next to Emmy-Grammy-Oscar-Tony winner Rita Moreno.

But that’s what happened when if came time for Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Sonia Manzano (Maria on Sesame Street) to speak with the press.

Miss Moreno had presented her with the award onstage at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel and showed up to watch her press conference.

Renee got up to get behind her camera as Miss Manzano spoke and Miss Moreno, quickly slid into Miss Sotile’s seat.

That meant she was about a foot away from me and so I did what I had to do: I took a photo of her lovely profile.

When the press conference was over, I said to her: ‘You were so good last night at The King and I at the TCM Festival.’ (She appeared there Saturday night for a great Q&A at Grauman’s before the screening).

Her mouth flew open and she said: ‘You’re everywhere!’

So is she – and she’s 84!

Anyway, below is Renee, MJ and I after things wrapped up. They are a terrific team and fun to hang out with at any event.
