Wilson Cruz guests on “The Talk” and says of being Grand Marshal of NYC Pride: ‘We stand with you’

Star Trek: Discovery star Wilson Cruz was on The Talk yesterday to discuss his role as the Grand Marshal of NYC Pride this year. “It’s a big deal for me to be the Grand Marshal of NYC Pride.” he said. “I’ve thought about this and dreamt about this for years. I’ve been in the Pride March many, many times, but this year, I am here in Toronto, Ontario. So I’ll be coming to you live from Toronto during Pride, because I’m here making season 4 of Star Trek: Discovery and the border is closed.” He added: “The first Pride was a riot, and now it’s a March… I’m here as Grand Marshal to say, we stand with you, and your issues are our issues, because we are a family, a community, a LGBQT people.” On his friends at Star Trek getting in on the celebration, he said: “I’m really proud to say that for the month of June, ViacomCBS will be donating 100% of its proceeds from the shop sale of its Pride Collection to support GLAAD’s culture changing work of accelerating acceptance.”
In the video below, Wilson talks about Star Trek: Discovery winning the 2021 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Drama Series. “We’re so incredibly proud of our GLAAD Award. After 52 years of not having a series regular character who is LGBTQ on ‘Star Trek’, we are making up for it now.” He talked about how the series is making him work harder to show an ideal society in real life. “When you wake up every morning and you show up to set, and you are part of a world, in which, who you are, who you love, what race you are, what size you are doesn’t matter — what matters is your potential and what you do in order to help save the world, you want to create that world in the real world.”
