WATCH: When Hugh Grant and James Wilby reunited to talk about the gay love story ‘Maurice’
I’ve seen the 1987 film Maurice several times and each time it was a richer experience.
It was the first film I ever saw Hugh Grant in and since yesterday was the actor’s 61st birthday, it seemed like a good time to repost this interview from a few years back in which Grant and James Wilby, who plays the title role, talk about how attitudes to on-screen LGBTQ+ love stories have changed – both among audiences and film crews – since they starred in the romance together.
Based on the book by E.M. Forster, Maurice stars Wilby as Maurice Hall, a Cambridge university student who falls in love with Grant’s character at a time when homosexuality was still illegal.

Brendan says:
Ooh, I didn’t know about this video. Thanks for posting it. And if anyone hasn’t read the book that the film is based on, I definitely recommend it, though the filmmakers actually adapted it pretty faithfully, so it’s best read when you haven’t seen the movie for a while.
Richard V says:
Loved this film and Brokeback, both displayed on screen what desire, emotions, and love that’s in out homosexual hearts. I own both videos and the books too. Remember I do reading the books over and over, and yes so so close to the films.
P.S. Hugh Grant and James Wilby were so damn beautiful, then came Rupert Graves who played Alec Scutter and full frontal… yummy
