Russell Tovey in conversation about “Plainclothes,” the 1990s and the power of storytelling
Russell Tovey and Adam Zmith join for a new episode of Conversations @ Curzon and talk about Carmen Emmi’s upcoming drama Plainclothes, living in Essex in the 1990s, using lived trauma as an actor and the power of storytelling. Plainclothes is a brooding psychological drama starring Tovey and Tom Blyth who meet under complicated circumstances. An undercover cop, tasked with arresting men cruising public bathrooms, is suddenly faced with hidden desires. Using lo-fi VHS footage to explore voyeuristic notions of surveillance, this story of forbidden love addresses pertinent themes of state surveillance and societal intolerance.
