WATCH: Marlo Thomas & Phil Donahue talk Princess Diana, Phyllis Schlafly, Sinatra & so much more on WWHL
In this unfortunate era where we are making people famous for belligerent and ignorant behavior, I offer you the opportunity to spend some time with two people who are famous for all kinds of wonderful reasons.
They are Marlo Thomas and Phil Donahue and they were Andy Cohen’s guests on Watch What Happens Live earlier this week.
What a refreshing change from reality stars taking about the manufactured drama on the various Bravo shows.
This couple, married 40 years, are icons who have accomplished so much, have had so many incredible experiences, and had front rows to history.
Marlo, who gained fame as That Girl and won her first Emmy for the classic Free to Be (You and Me), reveals that she turned down the lead role in Rosemary’s Baby that was played by Mia Farrow. My favorite moment in these clips is when she talks about receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama: “It meant the world to me.”
Phil, who hosted more than 6,000 episodes of daytime television over nearly 30 years, talks about dancing with Princess Diana and the time Frank Sinatra called his father-in-law (Danny Thomas) to try and get Donahue to cancel an interview with Kitty Kelley who had written a scathing memoir about Sinatra.
It’s all great stuff!
