Watch Dustin Lance Black’s appearance on Oprah!
Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black was on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on Friday via Skype. He had met Oprah, herself a 1986 Oscar nominee for “The Color Purple,” a few nights before the Oscars at a party at agent Bryan Lourd’s house. “I started to get real nervous about this little gold man thing,” he admitted to Oprah who told Lance that no matter what happened, he had already won because his “Milk” script had touched so many.
Of his heartfelt speech in which he told the gay kids that they are beautiful and that they are loved, Lance told Oprah that statistically, one in three gay kids still attempt suicide.
“I know that place,” he said. “I know those feelings…I thought it was my responsibility to pay it forward.”
