WATCH: Chris Cuomo interviews the husband of an ER doctor who died after he treated coronavirus patients

This is devastating.

Tonight on CNN, Chris Cuomo – himself sick with the coronavirus and broadcasting from his basement – spoke with the husband and friend of ER doctor Frank Gabrin, a two-time cancer survivor who came out of retirement to treat patients after the coronavirus outbreak. Gabrin contracted the virus himself and died within a week of treating the patients in a New Jersey hospital. He died in the arms of his husband, Arnold Vargas, before paramedics could arrive.

Through tears, a heartbroken Vargas, who also has the virus, manages to tells Cuomo: “He was a person who loved to help people … he just wanted to help people.”

Said Cuomo: “I know you are heartbroken. People need to see what was taken from us through this virus. Your husband had already fought through the battles he was supposed to fight – he beat cancer twice and he was there trying to help everybody else. People have to know how far our heroes are willing to go. … We;’ve got to care more about the people we call out heroes.”

The most powerful things in this interview come from the doctor’s close friend, Debra Vaselech Lyons, who seems like such a remarkable woman and in such an articulate way, tells us who Gabrin was and how much he and other medical professionals are being let down in this crisis without the proper protection and the hospitals become overwhelmed overnight.
