Watch Billy Gilman perform Martina McBride’s ‘Anyway’ on ‘The Voice’ top 10 show
Billy Gilman’s musical comeback hit its highest notes yet on NBC’s The Voice last night
The openly gay singer soared on the show’s top 10 episode as he took on the Martina McBride power ballad Anyway.
The song slowly built to a finale which had Gilman hitting and holding notes that vowed the audience and the show’s famous coaches – especially Miley Cyrus who coaches a rival team.
‘At this point in the competition, that’s not good for us, but it’s really good for you,’ Cyrus said.
‘As a coach, I’m flipping out. It just heightened what you already are, which is maybe the winner of The Voice.’
Gilman is one of 10 remaining contestants vying for eight semifinals spots on the singing competition.
By taking on Maybe, Gilman returned to his country music roots.
Now 28, Gilman was just 11 when he hit the country music charts with his hit One Voice.
He went on to sell more than 5 million records but his record sales began to slip. As he approached his 20s, music labels wouldn’t even take meetings with him and there were whispers about his sexuality.
For a time, he faded from public view until coming out publicly as a gay man in 2014.
