Was Maya Rudolph parodying Lauren Bacall or Faye Dunaway in her “SNL” coffee commercial sketch a few weeks back?
Loved Maya Rudolph hosting SNL a few weeks back – especially the return of her a Beyonce on Hot Things parody. But this coffee commercial spoof was also a hoot and it wasn’t until I brought it up last Sunday at a barbecue that several of the gay male guests informed me that Miss Rudolph was spoofing Lauren Bacall’s High Point coffee commercials from the 1980s. Bacall, who became a star in the mid-1940s in To Have and Have Not opposite future husband Humphrey Bogart, became a Broadway sensation later in her career. At the time of her coffee commercials, she was starring on Broadway in the musical Women of the Year which won her a second Tony Award. Check out Maya’s parody then watch Miss Bacall and let me know if you think she is the inspiration for the sketch!
UPDATE: It looks like a mash-up of Faye Dunaway and Bacall:

Maybe a mash-up, but it was immediately inspired by viral Faye: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VazlynfzHWM&t=62s I bet Bowen (whose name on IG is fayedunaway!) saw the Faye and kinda reworked it.
Rick Gould says:
A mash-up of both, obviously!
Maya’s take was filled with deep-brewed flay-vuh! And with Faye’s scary stare!
Cheers, Rick
