Video: Why Billie Jean King has mattered so much

Billie Jean King could not be in Russia at the Olympics this weekend because her mom, Betty Moffitt, died.

It would have been so incredibly powerful to have had this woman in that place at this time.

But it was not to be.

I came across a really terrific little video that is only about five minutes long that captures Billie Jean’s spirit and her contributions so well.

It’s also touching to note that when she had her epiphany on the way home from her first tennis lesson that she had found what she wanted to do with the rest of her life and that she wanted to be number one in the world, the first person she told was her mom.
