Video: On Oprah: Where Are They Now? Sam Harris talks about the closet and suicide attempt at 15
Sam Harris is, hands down, one of the most astonishingly talented performers I have ever seen perform live.
His talent is off the charts.
Imagine if the world had never gotten to see that talent on Star Search 30 years ago, a talent competition that was the precursor to American Idol. Sam and Rosie O’Donnell are among the performers who were discovered on the show.
On last night’s episode of Oprah: Where Are They Now, Sam talks about how he remained in the closet in the post Star Search days when his fame was at its early peak. He also talks about the pre-fame days when as a 15 year old he was so depressed about being gay that he swallowed 30 sleeping pills.
Watch the video and find out how his brother inadvertently saved his life.

I remember him on Star Search, and he was just such an incredible singer. So happy to see him doing well and so happy today with his family.
