Van Hansis on his life and career now: “At this point, you just kind of take whatever gets offered to you.”
It’s been more than a year since As the World Turns left the air.
Actor Van Hansis, who earned three Emmy nominations for his performance as Luke Snyder, has relocated from New York City to Los Angeles where he has landed guest spots on Nikita, Psych and The Mentalist.
“After working for five years straight, you have to acclimate yourself to the rat race, but it’s been good,” Van tells Soap Opera Digest. “There’s just been a lot of getting to meet the casting directors and trying to get on the radar. It takes some time. At auditions, you do see a lot of soap people, but it’d be weird to be like, ‘Hi! I used to be on a soap, too!'”
While he sometimes gets nostalgic for his days on ATWT, Hansis is excited to be trying new things.
“You gotta move on and spread your wings and all that crap,” he says. “You feel like playing the same character for such a long time, you might just be seen as that character. On Nikita, I was a Russian assassin and I actually got to speak Russian. And on Psych, I was sort of a vampire. It’s been great seeing how you perceive yourself versus how you get perceived. I never saw myself as a Russian assassin, but someone did!”
“At this point, you just kind of take whatever gets offered to you,” he adds. “With each thing I do, I learn something new and find something exciting. You haven’t seen the last of me yet!”

It’s always a pleasure to know something new about Mr. Van Hansis. He is definitely a great actor. I saw that “Russian assassin” character episode, just amazing. I wish him a great success in his career.

I’ve seen his parts on some of the mentioned series and I was impressed. Not because I didn’t know that the guy could act –obviously he can, and very well- but because I’ve got to see his versatility. And all with a soul, something that many other actors –even with names atop- don’t have or have difficult to show. So I hope he goes from strong to stronger and get more jobs.

Van Hansis is the most amazing actor on the planet and, for me, there will NEVER be another story that touches my heart like the LuRe story did. Two phenomenal actors with out of this world chemistry came together with a storyline that just can’t be beat. I wish him much success but he will always be “Luke” to me and one half of my all-time favorite couple.
