Van Hansis gets Emmy nod!
The Daytime Emmy Award nominations have just been arrounded and I am happy as a clam at high tide to see that Van Hansis, who plays Luke Snyder on As the World Turns, has received a well-deserved nod.
Van was nominated in the outstanding supporting actor for the first time and will compete against Vincent Irrizary and Jacob Young of All My Children, Bradford Anderson and Jeff Branson of Guiding Light.
Van had been nominated twice before in the outstanding younger actor category but now, at 27, is too old for that. He has yet to win in any category and I hope this is the year.
I don’t know anything about the other nominees but I do know that Van is remarkable as Luke, a young gay man trying to make his relationship with Noah (Jake Silbermann) work as he also navigates such problems as getting kicked out of college for cheating on an election, developing a drinking problem, getting hit on by his grandmother’s new husband, dealing with his parents rocky relationship after his dad slept with his mom’s best friend, getting kidnapped by the psycho pair of Zac and Zoey, and having his life turned upside down by the return of his biological father from whom he inherited a large amount of money.
Through all of thee plots twists, Hansis manages to keep Luke human and whether he’s acting opposite Silbermann or John Henley and Nioelle Beck who play his parents Lily and Holden, Van’s dialogue never seems like acting. He has that rare ability to be completely believable on so many levels.
“You just have to give yourself over to the genre. Even when outlandish things happen, you have to find the truth,” Van told me at a pre-Emmy party last year.
I also got his philosophy about awards: “If I won that’s awesome. If I don’t win, what happens? I don’t win an award. It’d be great to get the award but just being nominated is awesome. It’s a no lose situation to me.”
I’m rooting for him to win all the same!

I am so happy Van gets this so well-deserved recognition. I really want to see Van get the Emmy, because he is one of the most wonderful and one of the best actors of all the shows I watch. He is so believable in his character and I so love his work. Plus, Van is so kind and sweet.

I believe that Van deserves the Emmy more than any of the other nominees. Van says that he is happy just being nominated but i believe he should get the Emmy. Van’s acting is beautiful. He is so believable and out of all the shows i watch, all the different actors i see, his acting stands out the most. He’s not overacting like many other actors on soaps. He is one of a kind. He is outstanding!
