Twitter Advocacy: Singer Rob Thomas stands up for gay marriage in a sweet series of “tweets”

First Howard Stern and now Rob Thomas. Our straight allies are speaking up for LGBT equality this week and it’s a beautiful thing. I think we probably have that tiresome modern-day Anita Bryant Miss California (“I chose truth over a tiara”) Carrie Prejean to thank for this.

According to AfterElton.com, the Matchbook 20 singer began a debate when he wrote on Twitter (in several tweets, of course): “I’m so tired of people saying that the Miss USA contestant, Carrie Prejean, had the courage to speak her mind. She’s a bigot. I’m sorry, but I think if you’re against gay marriage you’re a bigot and you shouldn’t be applauded for sharing your bigoted views. She is starring in a $1.5 million ad against gay marriage. I don’t underastand how it’s ok to stomp on human rights so blatantly.”

He then goes on and debates some of the haters via Twitter and his answers are surprisingly informed and ones I might use the next time I have to engage a bigot.
