Troye Sivan on cover of Billboard’s Pride issue
Billboard celebrates LGBT Pride Month with it’s first ever, official Pride Issue featuring Troye Sivan on the cover.
In the in-depth cover interview, the openly gay singer reveals details about his relationship with an older man at the age of 17, his upcoming collaboration with Ariana Grande, on being the embodiment of gay culture emerging into the mainstream, his upcoming album, and more.
Here are some excerpts:
Dua Lipa on Troye Sivan’s authenticity: “He’s such a smart wordsmith, but he’s very honest at the same time. That’s why people love his music. He says things that people want to say but can’t find the words to say them.”
On his upcoming song about having a relationship with an older man at the age of 17: “I’m worried because I don’t want to ever come across that I’m condoning that or anything like it. But I felt, greater than all of those worries, a responsibility to tell that true story — of the curious gay kid who puts himself in some kind of shady situation to find a connection, like all of us crave.”
On his just-released collaboration with Ariana Grande, “Dance To This”: It’s “about how, after a while, all of these parties and nights out kind of start to blur, and you get to the point where staying at home and making food and making out in the kitchen sounds like the ideal night.”
