View this post on Instagram Alright kids. 20 years ago today this was how it was done. No Grindr. No Tinder. No Bumble. Just picking random people up on subways, in bars and clubs and hoping to God they weren’t a serial killer. Best practice was to get blind drunk or high to overcome the fear of rejection (and possible murder). Is it better or worse or the same today? America and I linked up in January 2009 so we missed the whole dating app thing. In many ways from what I see with my friends I think the “finding a mate” process is healthier than it was back then – on the other hand having so much choice can be debilitating. In case you’re wondering the movie is called TRICK – it premiered at Sundance in 1999. Fun fact – TRICK was the first gay movie to be carried by Blockbuster Video. A place where you entered – stared at walls of VHS tapes and DVD’s for at least 30 minutes not knowing what you wanted – randomly selected something with a face that looked familiar or case art that looked somewhat promising – which you then took home and hoped to God wasn’t terrible or going to kill your soul that night. Just like Grindr, Tinder & Bumble. @jimfall JP Pitoc @torispelling @misscocoperu Steve Hayes, Brad Beyer @chamberlin.kevin @jumpinjehosaphat A post shared by Christian Campbell (@uscanuk) on Jul 23, 2019 at 5:50pm PDT
