Tracy Morgan apologizes for anti-gay comments during a stand-up show, admits he “clearly went too far.”
Tracy Morgan is under fire for a recent show in Nashville where he did an anti-gay tirade and said he’d “pull out a knife and stab” his son if he were gay.
Among those in attendance was longtime Morgan fan Kevin Rogers, a gay man who detailed the offensive material in a Facebook post after the show. There is so much more that Rogers reports including gays needing to quit whining about bullying and President Obama needing to man up and quit being supportive of LGBT equality.
Although there is no video of the routine as there was of Michael Richards when he made anti-Semitic remarks during a comedy show several years ago, Rogers’ account got enough attention that Morgan, one of the cast members of NBC’s 30 Rock, is now apologizing.
“I want to apologize to my fans and the gay & lesbian community for my choice of words at my recent stand-up act in Nashville,” Morgan said in a statement. “I’m not a hateful person and don’t condone any kind of violence against others. While I am an equal opportunity jokester, and my friends know what is in my heart, even in a comedy club this clearly went too far and was not funny in any context.”
GLAAD and the Human Rights Campaign have weighed in on the controversy.
HRC vice president of communications Fred Sainz tells The Hollywood Reporter: “Hateful remarks that mock youth suicides and the very real emotional and sometimes physical bullying LGBT kids face on a daily basis have no place in a comedy routine. I’m shocked that Tracy Morgan would find humor in so viciously attacking our youth. If these allegations are true, Tracy Morgan must immediately accept responsibility and apologize. His employer, NBC Universal, also must come forward and condemn these atrocious comments.”

When will those in the entertainment industry learn that you DO NOT use this type of blatant HATEFUL language against any group of human beings! “I’m sorry” after being caught on tape does not justify your action! Tracy, you of all people have a responsibility to set an example for our youth-that violence in speech has NO place in our world!!! I suggest that you donate the salary you made at this event to the TREVOR PROJECT, if you are truly sorry…..

Funny, he always seemed a bit effeminate to me. Me thinks “Perhaps he protesteth too much”, and thus his own insecurities with himself are actually coming to surface. Oh wait; am I stereotyping? Maybe. But I am not calling this black man anything but an ignorant person who gets paid too much for bad jokes. Maybe child services should look into why he would kill his own child for the way he was born. In my opinion, Morgan could have been the star of the SNL skit “Lyle, The Effeminate Heterosexual”.

It sounds like Tracy Morgan needs a psych evaluation to me! If he actually has a son, I think child protective services should be called in. I seriously question whether a child is safe with him.

Unfunny, bitter hatemonger, hopefully this will be the end of his career. But, beyond him and his hateful remarks, just how many millions of others in this country feel the same way just not as extreme, that’s even scarier than this chump. This country and this world has a long way to go to end the hate and stupidity.
