Tom Goss wows in first LA concert of 2015

It was raining on Sunday night and I had already been to a friend’s birthday party at The Abbey and then attended the Gay and Lesbian Critics Association’s annual winner’s toast at The Pikey on Sunset Boulevard.

That’s a pretty full Sunday even for Greg In Hollywood and it’s at this point I’m looking forward to some Downton Abbey and some popcorn.

But I ended up driving back across town to Room 5 on La Brea to watch Tom Goss perform a 10 pm live show. Had been to the restaurant downstairs but had never seen a show at this cozy venue.

Loved the vibe and the sound was terrific.

Then there was Mr. Goss, a creative force of nature who has impressed me so much with his positive energy and work ethic. But most of all, he’s just a wonderful musician whose songs are filled with meaning and whose voice I could listen to all day.

Tom performed a dozen songs – some that have appeared on his albums and a few that have not been recorded.

He kicked off with the quiet ballad All My Life as the room settled in and the crowd from the previous show made its way out.

Other songs included  It Only Takes One, Worst of Me, Gon’ Work It Out, In Time, Wait, Illuminate The Dark, Lover (this is my favorite), Make Believe, Bears, the lovely Breath and Sound with Tom at the piano and the rousing closing number Can’t Hold Us which included some rapping.

(I’ve posted videos of some of the songs below)

Tom told the crowd that this was his first live show of 2015 but he’s been very busy making videos and raising money to make more through a Kickstarter campaign.

Tom is a married gay man whose music reflects that and he is committed to telling LGBT stories through his music.

The campaign has less than  a week to go and has already surpassed it’s $9,000 goal with more than $13,600 raised so far.

I urge you to check out the Kickstarter campaign!

    Dear Greg:
I just have to give you major props on this beautifully written piece about Tom Goss. I love what you wrote about Tom as a singer-songwriter-musician and as a man. He is special and unique. In his #5 Kickstarter update, Tom says something like, “I am not a persona, I am being myself”. And I believe that truth is in his Music, Art and anything he creates. That is what I admire about him; that is why he inspires me; and that is why he is one of my Heroes! Thank you again Greg! And Thank You Tom Goss!
    Most Sincerely,
    Michael Geneva
