Tom Daley qualifies for second Olympic diving event
Adorable British diver Tom Daley will have at least two chances to win a gold medal at the Summer Olympics later this year in Rio de Janeiro.
Daley, 21, teamed with 19-year-old Daniel Goodfellow this week to win the bronze medal 10m synchronized diving event at the Diving World Cup which was also held in Rio.
The pair, who won gold at the British National Cup last month, edged the US team of David Boudia and Steele Johnson in wet and windy weather for an Olympic berth.
‘Conditions for the final were actually really tough,’ Daley said in a YouTube video he posted after the competition. ‘The standard was high and anything and everything you could think of as obstacles was thrown at us.’
Daley said there was a lot of rain, a lightning delay and wind so strong at one point it nearly blew he and Goodfellow off their diving boards.
In August, Daley qualified for the Olympics in the 10-metre platform event.
At the Summer Olympics in London in 2012, Daley won the 10-meter platform bronze medal and finished fourth in the synchro event.
He is engaged to Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black.
