Today’s Holiday Tune: Carol Brady gets her voice back just in time to sing “O Come All Ye Faithful”

http://img2.timeinc.net/ew/dynamic/imgs/090428/best-moms/florence-henderson_l.jpgC’mon, was there ever any doubt that Carol Brady would get her voice back in time to sing O Come All Ye Faithful in church on Christmas Day?

Well, we may know that now but I remember the first time I saw this episode as a kid, I was pretty stressed out about it thinking, “Is she going to able to sing?!!”

Then a department store Santa Claus got Cindy Brady’s hopes sky high by promising her that mommy would be able to sing. I knew he wasn’t the real Santa so my hopes were not so high.

This is one of my all-time favorite Brady Bunch episodes and it is from the show’s very first season (I don’t believe we ever saw the Bradys in church ever again!).

I’ve posted the entire 9 minute “minisode” so you can see the story building up to Carol’s big solo. And it is so wonderful that our beloved Mrs. Brady, Florence Henderson, got to sing on the show at least once.

Brady fans probably did not even know about her great big Broadway career before the show launched in 1969. She could – and still can – belt out one heckuva number.

3 Remarks

  1. I always loved that episode…a classic!

  2. At 3:00, this “six year old” is left alone in the department store while her father goes to shop elsewhere. In the nanny-state we live in today, this father would be arrested and lose his daughter through child protective services. I miss the old days and hate the ultra-politically correct nanny-state of 2013.

  3. Also, in this heightened politically-correct world of today, sadly no tv show could celebrate christmas with this old fashion religious christmas song . (And, I am an atheist.)
