Time Capsule Video: When Elizabeth Taylor Warner was honored in 1977 with a televised all-star party

This popped up while looking for an Elizabeth Taylor video and it was such a 1977 time capsule! The great star was being honored by Variety Club International in a televised “All Star Party” on CBS. She had recently married future US Senator John Warner and was leaving her life as a movie star behind to live on his farm in Virginia. She had started to gain weight in this new life but was still quite glamorous as she was feted by Rock Hudson, Bob Hope, John Wayne, Paul Newman, Henry Fonda, Roddy McDowell, Monty Hall, Carroll O’Connor,and Dan Rowan and Dick Martin. She also had a sweet reunion with her Little Women co-stars June Allison, Janet Leigh, and Margaret O’Brien. New star Debby Boone also sang her big hit at the time You Light Up My Life.

In the audience I also spotted Angie Dickinson, John Travolta, Betty White, Florence Henderson, George Cukor, Esther Williams and Fernando Lamas, Joanne Woodward, Jean Stapleton, John Ritter, Chad Everett, Mary Ann Mobley and Gary Collins.
