Thursday Morning Man: Steve Callahan!

Actor Steve Callahan is coming off a pretty good weekend I’d say. He was in San Francisco where he accepted the GLAAD Media Award for East Side Story, a wonderful film in which he starred.

I’ve been a fan of Steve’s ever since first seeing East Side Story then when I saw him play a very different kind of a role in the film Nine Lives, i knew he was the real deal. He’s such a handsome guy but he’s also so soulful. That comes across in his performances on film and also in his stage work including Corpus Christi which had an off-Broadway run last year. His LA stage work includes then play Von Lutz and the comedy WeHo.

Most of his roles have been gay men – something the openly gay actor has no reservations about.

“I definitely made a choice that I never wanted to be in the closet – that was not something that ever interested me,” Steve said in a 2007 interview I did with him. “I came out of the closet to friends when I was 18, to my family when I was in college [Ohio State University]. You come out of the closet and it’s such a free feeling when you come out. I couldn’t imagine moving to L.A. and then going back into the closet. … I just want to do good work. There are so few out of the closet actors out there. When I was a kid, I didn’t see anyone. I thought I was alone. I thought I was the only one.”
