THIS WEEKEND! “Two Pieces of Work” features self-written solo pieces by Michael Kearns & Dave Trudell
I am so excited for this weekend because I am going to see Two Pieces of Work at Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica.
The show features two separate self-written solo pieces by Michael Kearns and Dave Trudell that dissect the queer male psyche with determined fearlessness and an unleashed sense of fun and romance shared by both of the performer-writers.
Both are premieres! Get your tickets HERE!
Kearns’ work follows a tradition he began at Highways the year that it opened (intimacies, one of the first outings to explore HIV/AIDS from an inclusive lens) so it’s fitting the he will premiere MENoir, Has Anyone Seen My Libido? In which the award-winning solo performer tracks the emotional, physical, sexual, and perhaps spiritual aftermath of radiation treatment he underwent for prostate cancer treatment in 2017.
Trudell’s One of These Daves (Is Someone Like You) takes the temperature of the current Administration with his trademark zaniness mixed with intelligence and biting awareness while always adhering to the Seventies battlecry that the “personal is political.” And the Dave he most prevalently presents is the one who is transitioning from boy to man, posing the question at his critical juncture in American GLBTQ politics: What are the responsibilities of a gay man other than having a good haircut and good Grindr profile?
