“The X-Files” star Gillian Anderson gets candid about lesbian relationships she has had in the past
The publicity folks at OUT and The Advocate will often send me a heads-up about big interviews they have just published in their magazine or on their website.
When I saw one earlier today on Gillian Anderson I just scrolled right by thinking I didn’t have much use for it. But then I went back to it and read it.
Wow!
She talks about relationships she had in high school, including one with a woman!
“I was in a relationship with a girl for a long time when I was in high school, and then I was in a relationship with a punk rock drug addict…Yeah, yeah, well it’s… You know, I’m old enough that I can talk about that. And then I was in a relationship with somebody who was way, way older than me.”
Of her decision to discuss this publicly for the first time Anderson said: ‘Yeah, yeah, well it’s… You know, I’m old enough that I can talk about that.’
On being bisexual: ‘If I had thought I was 100% gay, would it have been a different experience for me? Would it have been a bigger deal if shame had been attached to it and all those things that become huge life-altering issues for youngsters in that situation? It’s possible that my attitude around it came, on some level, from knowing that I still liked boys.’
The article is very good. Click HERE to read in its entirety.
