The lesbian twist on “Desperate Housewives”
Desperate Housewives certainly has not done well by its gay male characters so maybe its new lesbian storyline will be more satisfying.
Dana Delany’s just out of the loony bin Katherine and her new roommate Robin (Julie Benz from Dexter) shared a kiss on last night’s episode while on a girl’s night out.
At first, it was just to get a coupla jerky guys at the bar to leave them alone. But once they get home, Robin tells Katherine that she is a “card carrying” lesbian.
“I thought that kiss felt awfully convincing,” Katherine said.
Robin: “I realized, ‘Robin sweetie, you’re barking up the wrong tree.”
Katherine: “I think I have the right tree, I’m just sick of barking.”
She assures Robin that she has no problem with her sexuality but doesn’t seem interested until the very end of the episode when it is revealed that Katherine did in fact enjoy that kiss and no doubt will want more!

YAWN! Turning Katherine into a lesbian is a snoozer of a story that makes no sense since the lady has been obsessed with Mike forever. I just don’t buy it – even though the lovely and talented Dana Delany “desperately” needed something to do on the show. What the series really needs is a new head writer and/or producer – anyone who can right this sinking ship. On the other hand, “Brothers & Sisters” actually had a decent episode last night, in which Kevin didn’t annoy the hell out of me and Sarah dumped the boring Republican to reunite with the hot Gilles Marini (smart girl). Just my opinion.

A girl-on-girl kiss in a bar to get rid of two pesky males.. seriously??? isn’t that every straight man’s fantasy to watch two women make out???? how in the poop is this supposed to get rid of the guys in the bar?
Ken says:
Oh, great, because people can choose their sexuality, right?

I’ve love Julie Benz since the premiere episode of Buffy, then she really shined on Angel, and it was lovely to see her as the catalyst for stories with all the housewives last night.
I hope Katherine is over Mike (finally) and that she & Robin shake up the lane a bit with their affair.

I agree with Marc and Ken. Katherine has shown no interest in women, and has been psychotically obsessed with Mike. She was going to marry him last season. This storyline makes no sense. It also implies that straight people choose to be gay (when they get tired of being straight). Not the message I want to see on TV.

It’s great to see such a hit series as Desperate Housewives develop a lesbian theme. I’ve never watched the show regularly, but I tuned in this week to see the plot develop between Katherine and Robin.
My novel, Seeking Sara Summers, has a very similar storyline: a woman unhappy with her marriage and searching for a more authentic life, who never considered “barking up that tree,” now considers expanding her universe!
