Johnny has been very in-demand on all the news and chat shows and I’ve compiled three of his appearances here. The best conversation took place last night on The Joy Behar Show when the host asked Johnny about the remarks that he is “too gay” for figure skating.
“It’s figure skating … They never talk about somebody being too butch for figure skating,” Johnny said.
“There are so many kids like me, coming after me, whose parents might repress them just because they saw what they said about me, that their kids are going to turn out to be like me,” he also said. “And I think ‘me’ is pretty fabulous.”

I also love that Johnny reminded folks of just what a great athlete he is – that all professional figure skaters are: “I challenge any football player, any hockey player, to do what I do for one day and not cry.”

On Regis & Kelly, Johnny addressed his scores at the Olympics where he finished sixth despite a flawless program: There are people that judge me that are several generations older than me,” he lamented on Live with Regis & Kelly. “I can’t always please those people because I am very out there for the average skating judge. What I was so happy with at the Olympics was the way I skated. All that hard work [gave me] that moment when I could feel the audience on that journey with me.”

    Tom Nunnery says:

I think this man is the ideal role model for many young kids. He is intelligent and true to himself. He is right in saying that other atheletes could not stand up to the rigors of ice skating.I know he is successful now and will be no matter what he does in the future.

  2. He hit it right on the nose when he said and “not cry”!
