The Ellen Express: Oscar ratings highest since 2000; daytime show reaches highest ratings ever

Ellen DeGeneres is the ratings queen.

The Academy Awards telecast she hosted – complete with Twitter-busting selfies and pizza – scored the highest ratings for any Oscar show since 2000.

Sunday’s Oscars attracted 47.3 million viewers – up 8% from last year’s telecast hosted by Seth Macfarlane.

But Ellen-fever did not stop there.

On Monday she hosted a live version of her s daytime gabfest featuring three sleep-deprived winners from the night before: Jared Leto, Lupita Nyong’o and Cate Blanchett.

That show, which also featured the pizza delivery man who made an unexpected appearance on the Oscars the night before, set a new ratings record for The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The post-Oscar show drew 4.8 million viewers – easily the highest number in the Emmy-winning show’s 11 year history, according to The Wrap.

The blockbuster ratings are the continuation of a huge week for Ellen who during the telecast broke Twitter’s retweet record with an all-star selfie taken during the telecast.

The photo was retweeted more than 2 million times during the show causing so much activity that Twitter temporarily shut down.

The previous record for retweets was set by President Barack Obama whose photo with wife Michelle after his 2012 election was retweeted more than 800,000 times.
