“The Ellen DeGeneres Show” wins sixth Daytime Emmy but Ellen, winners Regis & Kelly and honoree Oprah are no-shows
Ellen DeGeneres wasn’t around tonight when her talk show won the Daytime Emmy tonight in Las Vegas – the sixth win in the category for the show,
She wasn’t the only one who didn’t bother to show up.
Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa won for best talk show host but neither were present. Oprah Winfrey was honored with a special award for her quarter-century on daytime television. Oprah was not in Vegas to accept personally but she did tape a thank you speech. Problem is, it was from the set of her talk show which means it was taped probably more than a month ago.
And then there is the fact that soaps are dying in general and that Susan Lucci hasn’t been nominated in forever – that was the best storyline the Daytime Emmys have ever had!
