“The Ellen DeGeneres Show” gets 12 Emmy nods
The wonderful Ellen DeGeneres will get a chance to add to her already very impressive Emmy collection (11 daytime wins, one primetime victory). The nominations for Ellen and for her daily talk show include a nod outstanding daytime host, a category that she has nominated in recent years.
Ellen will compete against Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa, Racheal Ray, and the five co-hosts on The View: Whoopi Goldberg, Barbara Walters, Joy Behar, Sherri Shepherd and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. After 11 seasons on the air, The View co-hosts have never won. In fact, The View was snubbed in the best entertainment talk show category this year which is a surprise given that the show was so often in the news during the election season. That category mirrors the hosting nominees except there are only three nominees.
I covered last year’s Daytime Emmy Awards at the Kodak Theatre and Ellen was such a riot when she came back after winning for outstanding talk show host for the fourth consecutive year.
It marked the first first tine in four years that Ellen’s show did not also win outstanding talk show so she went home with one trophy instead of two and joked: “It feels weird, I’m not balanced this year. This is gonna join all the others, i put them all in a case and I hope to build, a wing in my house.”
She talked about how much she enjoys her work: “I love what I do and what I’ve wanted to do for a long time, I want to make people happy….This kind of thing, it’s not the award itself, it’s actually people saying, “You make us happy.’ That means something to me.”
