The deep feeling of pride I experienced voting for Pete Buttigieg in CA Democratic primary surprised even me
I voted for Pete Buttigieg yesterday and the feeling of pride while doing so surprised even me.
It was powerful and deep.
When I walked into the polling place, my head was saying Elizabeth Warren or Joe Biden so they could reach 15% in California and get a share of the delegates. But Mayor Pete being so impressive as a person and being a gay man who has gotten this far led me to vote with my heart.
Now comes word that Pete is dropping out of the race. I do not regret my vote, and will watch with great interest what is next for this young man from Indiana. Gay kids who watched his rise now know the sky is the limit.

He often said he was the only “left-handed, Maltese-American, Episcopalian, gay millennial war veteran” in the presidential race. Boy, were we lucky to find such a viable candidate for our highest national office. I am looking forward to following him on the national scene, knowingly that he will make some major contributions to bringing our country back together, rather than dividing us up. Way to go Mayor Pete! It has been a pleasure to be a contributor and follower to your wonderful national campaign!

I voted for him yesterday, as well. I’m disappointed, of course, but hopefully some smart candidate will include him on their team. I think he’d make an excellent Secretary of State, With his knowledge of languages, maybe he’ll make a great impression on the world before he makes his presidential run in 2024.
