“The Avengers” makes box office history!

It’s rare that I’ll brave the crowds and see a blockbuster film on opening weekend.

But I made an exception on Saturday and took my dad, who is 81 years young and loves Marvel Comics, to see The Avengers.

We went to a 10:40 a.m. show at the Bella Terra in Huntington Beach and managed to get tickets at the box office just before they sold out.

It was clear that something really special was going on as the theater was filled with all generations of people – all kind of giddy to see this film.

Now comes word that The Avengers has had the biggest domestic box office opening in history with an estimated gross of $200.3 million!

This easily topped the previous record of $169.2 million set last year by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 2.

I loved being a part of the communal movie-going experience and we had a great time.

The movie really is highlighted by Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man whose humor is a real treat and Scarlett Johannson is a sensation as Black Widow. Chris Evans could not be more handsome as Captain America and Mark Ruffalo’s The Hulk has two of the movie’s best moments – I won’t spoil them for you but one involves him and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor.

I enjoyed it a lot but the movie does drag a little in spots. I’m certain there will be a sequel so maybe that one will be even better.
