The Apology Tour: A repetent Tracy Morgan returns to Nashville, the scene of his homophobic rant
It was Kevin Rogers who first reported via Facebook that comedian Tracy Morgan made anti-gay remarks during a June 3 comedy performance in Nashville. During that performance, Morgan also reportedly stated that if “his son were gay … he would pull out a knife and stab [him].”
Who would have thought that two weeks later, Rogers and Morgan would be sitting together on a stage (along with Herndon Graddick, Senior Director of Programs for GLAAD) and share a hug after both made remarks to the press after Morgan met with local gay and transgender residents of Tennessee at the Nashville Convention Center.
“I apologize to Kevin and people that were at the show,” Morgan said. “I want to apologize to my friends, and my family and my fans and everyone in every community who were offended with this. I didn’t know. I didn’t mean it… I don’t have a hateful bone in my body. I don’t believe that anyone should be bullied or just made to feel bad about who they are. I totally feel that, in my heart, I don’t care who you love, same-sex or not, as long as you have the ability to love… I don’t really see gay or straight, I just see human beings now… From the bottom of my heart, I apologize to everybody… To err is human, to forgive is divine… Thank you everybody for forgiving me.”
Said Rogers: “Tracy was sincere and spoke from his heart today. I decided to speak out and use my voice to inspire others. The best thing that has come from this is a national conversation that anti-gay violence is unacceptable and that homophobia is outdated.”
“I apologize to Kevin.
