The answer to what the heck happened to “All My Children’s” lesbian love story

I don’t follow other soaps as closely as the Luke and Noah characters on As the World Turns but I do keep track of other shows here and there. I always want to know what Tuc Watkins is up to on One Life to Live and Cameron Mathison on All My Children.

And, of course, any kind of same-sex storyline grabs my interest.

That’s why it was so good to read Michael Logan’s column in the new TV Guide magazine which explains why lesbian couple Bianca and Reese split up the day after their highly-anticipated Valentine’s Day wedding – first for daytime. The fact that Bianca (Eden Reigel) is the daughter of the show’s grand diva Erica Cane (the great Susan Lucci) made it all the more newsworthy.

On the show, Bianca fled to Paris after finding out that her new bride has kissed Zach ( Thorsten Kaye) at the rehearsal dinner. Apparently that’s not the honeymoon the writers had first imagined. It seems that Reigel left the show to participate in pilot season.

Head writer Chuck Pratt said to TV Guide: “I was led to believe we had her for longer than we did – suddenly I got word that Eden is leaving now.

Since Braun was set to stay on the show for a six-month stint, they had to decide which direction to take her character.

“We thought about making Reese bisexual – kind of an Anne Heche who bounces back and forth – and maybe make her an opportunistic black widow, a real bad girl,” says Pratt. “Ultimately, we decided to stick with the message.”

And that message is: “Thar love wins out. Reese and Bianca will go back to Paris together. They will survive as a couple.”
