The 2012 Greggys: The Female Star of the Year is the ever-popular Ellen DeGeneres – again!
Saving the best for last.
The final Greggy of the year (well, last year technically) is finally being handed out and it goes to Ellen DeGeneres who repeats as Female Star of the Year.
There are many reasons for her selection in terms of professional accomplishment: Ellen marked 10 years as host of daytime’s phenomenally popular The Ellen DeGeneres Show, received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, received the prestigious Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, became spokeswoman for the JC Penney retail chain, and marked 15 years since her trailblazing coming out on the cover of Time magazine.
But something else happened to Ellen in 2012, something extraordinary. The general public stood up for her in a big way when she was attacked by an anti-gay group called One Million Moms who wanted her fired by JC Penney because she is a lesbian.
Not only did JC Penney stand by Ellen, the campaign resulted in a surge of major public support for the star and was the most wonderful proof that, once again, she is beloved for being who she is.
