Tennis News: Andy Murray is the new #2

For the past five years, either Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer have bene ranked number one or number two in the world with no other players capable of breaking their stranglehold on the top two spots.

Finally, someone has and his name is Andy Murray.

The British star prevailed at the Canadian Open on Sunday over Argentine Juan Martin Del Porto 6-7 7-6 6-1. That gave him enough points to overtake Rafael Nadal who has barely played for the past 10 weeks and will be ranked third heading into the US Open. Federer remains number one.

The victory was Murray’s fifth tournament win of the season but none of the victories have come in the sport’s major grand slam tournaments which have been shared by Federer and Nadal.

This will make the US Open very interesting!
