Talk Show Flashback: When the glorious Madeline Kahn was a guest on “The Rosie O’Donnell Show”
Rosie O’Donnell has been posting clips from her 1990s talk show and I’ve been meaning to share more of them with you. This is from 1996 and Rosie’s guest was Madeline Kahn who was so memorable in such films as Paper Moon, Blazing Saddles, What’s Up Doc?, Young Frankenstein, High Anxiety, The Cheap Detective, and Clue, along others.
I don’t personally remember ever seeing Kahn on a talk show before. She is utterly charming here with Rosie.
Three years earlier, Madeline had won the Tony Award for the play The Sisters Rosensweig and the year of this appearance, had just begun her three-year run on the sitcom Cosby. It’s just awful that she would die in December of 1999 at the age of only 57 after a battle with ovarian cancer.

She used to be on The Merv Griffin and Mike Douglas show all the time in the 70’s. She was hilarious.

A very young Madeline was on Dick Cavett on decades tv last. Around 1970 with Dean Jones who was just about to leave Company. Great interviews.
Deb says:
She was always a wonder to watch. Miss her so much. Thanks for sharing this clip.

You can see Madeline on David Letterman via the “Madeline Kahn the Legend @kahn_cepts” Instagram page. There are two Letterman interviews: 1987 and 1989. You’ll also find an interview from the 80s Max Headroom show on the same Insta page.
