Susan Boyle “recovering well” from breakdown

Before I came out of the closet in a real public way more than a decade ago, I would sometimes suffer from crippling anxiety attacks – for obvious reasons. But my attacks were always in private where no one could see me wig out! So I really feel badly for Susan Boyle, the new British singing sensation, who suffered what is beiong described as a “severe anxiety attack” following the finale of Britain’s Got Talent over the weekend.

The pressure of competing on the finale (she was runner-up) and the overnight fame have proven to be too much for the 48-year-old Scottish woman who has been hospitalized.

“She is recovering well,” said Max Clifford who represents show creator Simon Cowell.

Clifford told The Associated Press that he spoke by telephone to Boyle’s two brothers: “They are saying they weren’t surprised by what happened, due to the speed of everything that happened, with her getting worldwide fame in seconds. Provided she’s given a few days and then allowed to be as normal as possible, she should be fine. All she wants to do is sing.”

Clifford, who has represented many of Britain’s biggest stars, said there is little doubt about Boyle’s chances for a successful singing career and that she should be fine emotionally if she is surrounded by people she trusts.

“It shouldn’t be too difficult to get it under control,” he said. “She’s going to have potentially huge album sales, particularly in America. Americans absolutely love her. Everyone wants her on their show singing. That gives her massive potential, and Simon will make sure she has the best songs and the best productions.”

Get some rest Susan and take your time re-emerging. The public will wait for you and hopefully the paparazzi will tire of waiting outside your door.
