Sunday Showtunes: All about Kristin Chenoweth!

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jvNcYoH0574/SvMFCdoow6I/AAAAAAAACyg/OIG4NUy2W4M/s400/022408_chenoweth_400X400.jpgKristen Chenoweth is the real deal.

She is such a gifted performer and has the Tony Award (You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown) and Emmy Award (Pushing Daisies) to prove it.

She made her Broadway debut in 1997’s Steel Pier and went on to star in the original Broadway production of Wicked, the revival of The Apple Tree and is currently starring opposite Sean Hayes in the revival of Promises, Promises.

Kristin recently came very forcefully – and eloquently – to the defense of Hayes after a Newsweek writer wrote a controversial article claiming Hayes and other openly gay actors cannot convincingly play straight characters.

She is a gem of a person who, whenever I’ve encountered her on a red carpet, is truly a warm and down-to-Earth woman. She even spelled her name for me the first time we chatted and she already had a Tony.

Let’s celebrate the fabulous Kristen with three of her performances. Enjoy!

Julie Andrews seemed delighted with Kristin’s performance of Spoonful of Sugar during the 2001 Kennedy Centers Honors.

This clip is from when Nathan Lane hosted the Late Show with David Letterman. The song You’re Just In Love is from a musical — Call Me Madame.

And finally, here are Kristen and her Wicked co-star Idina Menzel performing Popular.
