VICTOR says:
Greg,
Thank you for posting the story of Dr. Acer. I have not heard of him. I was living in Dallas in the mid-’90s. I do remember going to a gay dentist and I was not overly concerned because I recall the dentist touting his universal precautions procedures. Now, that I think about it, I had a partner at the time who was a little on the neurotic side-but a sweet man. He refused to go to my dentist because he was gay. Get this, he is a RN and was well versed in infection transmission. Hell, he even created continuing education programs for nurses in the Air Force.
Living through that time period the stigma, fear was real. I being in healthcare for over 20 years I just educated myself. I really had no fear of folks having HIV/AIDS. They are people. I even did HIV/AIDs counseling for the Whitman Walker Clinic in DC for many years.
Best,
Victor
