Sulu is gay in new ‘Star Trek’ flick!
Absolutely love this development.
In this summer’s Star Trek Beyond, we learn that the character of Hikaru Sulu is gay, has a partner and they have a child.
It’s a nod to George Takei, the openly gay actor who played Sulu in the original TV series and feature films.
John Cho, the actor who plays the character in the current movie franchise, tells Australia’s Herald Sun: “I liked the approach, which was not to make a big thing out it, which is where I hope we are going as a species, to not politicize one’s personal orientations.”

I like it, but apparently George Takei thinks it’s unfortunate that Sulu is gay. What’s the old saying? You can’t please everyone.
