“Spoiler Alert,” the film based on Michael Ausiello’s best-selling memoir, has arrived at Netflix!

Yesterday, I walked out of my dentist’s office and saw a guy who looked an awful lot like Michael Ausiello crossing the street. It turns it is was Michael Ausiello, author of the best-selling memoir Spoiler Alert which I’ve read twice and cried just as much each time.

The book was made into a film released in late 2022 with four-time Emmy winner Jim Parsons portraying Michael and Ben Aldridge as his late husband, Kit Cowan. The film tells the story of their 13-year relationship and Kit’s last year of life. Two-time Oscar winner Sally Field portrays Kit’s mother.

It’s a wonderful movie and I’m so happy that it was just begun streaming on Netflix so it can reach an even wider audience.

Bumping into USC alum Michael, who I profiled in a 2022 Trojan Family Magazine article, made me want to remind readers about the film now being available on Netflix!

Michael became well-known for getting the inside scoop on television shows and stars during his decades as a TV Guide and Entertainment Weekly columnist, then as founder and editor-in-chief of TV Line.

More recently, he has had tremendous success with Michael Ausiello Presents: Beverly Hills: a Pretend Soap Opera Performed by Real Actors which had a two-year anniversary performance last weekend at Dynasty Typewriter in Los Angeles that quickly sold out.

As a closeted gay teen in the 80s, Michael wrote 517 episodes of an original soap opera called Beverly Hills and saved every handwritten script. Star-studded live readings of various episodes had a hugely successful run earlier this year at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City. Last year, the show made its New York debut with a one-night only performance to benefit the Ali Forney Center.
