Sophia Loren finally reveals what she was thinking in famous photo of her and Jayne Mansfield
Sophia Loren has finally revealed what was behind her side-eye glance at Jayne Mansfield’s ample cleavage in a famous 1957 photo of them.
The Oscar winner, now 80, tells Entertainment Weekly the photo was taken at a star-studded party Paramount had organized as an official welcoming to Hollywood for the Italian bombshell.
“And then comes in Jayne Mansfield, the last one to come,” Loren recalled. “For me, that was when it got amazing…. She came right for my table. She knew everyone was watching. She sat down. And now, she was barely… Listen. Look at the picture. Where are my eyes?”
“I’m staring at her nipples because I am afraid they are about to come onto my plate,” Loren told the mag. “In my face you can see the fear. I’m so frightened that everything in her dress is going to blow—BOOM!—and spill all over the table.”
“There may be other photos, but this is the picture,” Loren said. “This is the one that shows how it was. This is the only picture.”
Mansfield died far too young, killed in an auto accident. But her young daughter survived the accident and went on to become a star in her own right: Emmy winning actress Mariska Hargitay of Law & Order: SVU fame.
