Snapped! Venus and Serena Williams dressed up!

It’s Wimbledon time and here are Venus Williams and Serena Williams at a pre-tournament party looking quite dazzling.

It’s just an astonishing thing that these two sisters ruled the tennis world’s most prestigious tournament for an entire decade.

Between 2000 and 2010, either Venus or Serena took the singles title every year except 2004 when Serena lost in the finals to Maria Sharapova.

During that stretch, Venus won five titles beating Serena in the semifinals in 2000 and in the finals in 2008. Serena won four singles crowns and beat Venus in three of those finals.

Wow.

Then there are the four Wimbledon doubles titles they won together and Serena’s 1998 mixed doubles title with Max Myrni.

But that was then.

Venus has not won Wimbledon or any other grand slam title since 2008 and is dealing with Sjogren’s syndrome, an autoimmune disease that can cause fatigue and joint pain. She is unseeded for the first time since her Wimbledon debut in 1997 and has dropped to 55th in the rankings.

Still, I think her superior record on grass warranted her being seeded in the top 32 so we would not have to see her play a top seed in the early rounds (Wimbledon can adjust the seedings based on previous grass play).

Serena, recovered from serious health problems of her own, has climbed back to number six in the rankings and is considered one of the favorites despite a first round loss at the French Open.

It’s always exciting when the Williams sisters are in contention at one of the majors. They are such charismatic superstars and at 32 and 30, I hope they get the appreciation and respect they deserve.

3 Remarks

  1. I totally agree with you Greg-Venus should have been given the #32 seed at the very least. And what were they thinking not seeding Clijsters. Both dangerous floaters but Venus does tend to not be as sharp in the early rounds.

How about a post on your picks and predictions?

  2. They both look MARVELOUS, thanks for the pic!

  3. @ Mike-is that you you Mitt;-)
