Snapped! Bette Midler back as Dolly!
Last night, at Broadway’s Shubert Theatre, Bette Midler returned to the title role in the Tony Award-winning Best Musical Revival of Hello, Dolly!
Bette returns to Hello, Dolly! for 42 performances only. David Hyde Pierce also returns to his role of Horace Vandergelder. The production will end its historic Broadway run on Saturday, August 25, 2018.
At Outfest over the weekend, the subject of Hello, Dolly! came up and some people were wondering why producers didn’t try and have the show run longer with different stars. Bernadette Peters took over for Midler earlier this year so why not others?
After Carol Channing left the original Broadway show, Pearl Bailey was a smash in the role and Ethel Merman came in for the final year. A number of other famous actresses played the role during that run as well.
Who of our current stars do you think would have been good choice to step in and keep the show running? Thankfully Betty Buckley is starring in a national tour.
